兼兼08 - Jian Jian 08 - EDGE
Jian Jian is an independent photography magazine dedicated to black and white photography, built around the idea of 兼. This Chinese character represents duality, not as multitasking, but as a seamless blending of vision and thought.
Jian Jian — Issue 08: EDGE.
EDGE. is a conversation.
After 25 years of travelling across the world at the edge of the 21st century, Renaud Castaing brings together photographs made across continents, cultures, and moments in time. What emerges is not a catalogue of difference, but a dialogue between images that echo one another through silent violence, quiet beauty, and shared humanity.
Taken in distant places and disparate circumstances, these photographs reveal unexpected connections. Each image finds its reflection in another, suggesting that what unites people often runs deeper than what separates them.
At a time when images are increasingly produced from the same viewpoints and consumed in the same ways, EDGE. offers an alternative perspective. The world appears vast yet constrained, familiar yet elusive. Through this collection, questions of culture, difference, and belonging remain open, inviting the viewer into an ongoing conversation.
Curated by Renaud Castaing.
For more than two decades, Renaud Castaing has travelled extensively, using photography as a way of engaging with people, places, and the relationships that exist between them. His work moves beyond documentary description, seeking connections across borders and cultures while remaining attentive to the individuality of each encounter.
Printed in a 21×28 cm format with 32 monochrome pages, Jian Jian continues its exploration of the emotional and imaginative depth of black and white photography.
