They also published the PHOTOMAFIA Cassette as well but this time round have shone some light onto Alex’s work in particular. Across 2024 Alex visited Türkiye several times to form a unique perspectives on its melting pot of different cultures, areas and politics. shot during a time of civil unrest for the country, Layers Of Türkiye aims to paint a sense of place filled with intense nuance filled with contradiction and paradox, uninterested in showing the typical cliches associated with it.

Layers of Türkiye is not simply a visual diary of travels, but a portrait of a country at a crossroads. From the historic streets of Istanbul, where rapid modernisation threatens traditional ways of life, to the working-class districts of Adana marked by economic hardship, and the remote bay of Ekincik, untouched by mass tourism, these photographs attempt to capture a country both beautiful and complex.

This series was created against a backdrop of political uncertainty, economic instability, and social tension. Yet, beyond the headlines and public discourse, everyday life continues vibrant, resilient, and deeply human.

Rather than offering a singular narrative, these images present Türkiye in its contradictions: between past and present, secular and religious, urban and rural, local and global. The work aims to document both the visible and invisible impacts of the country's shifting political landscape, while honouring the small, often overlooked moments that define daily life.

At a time when Türkiye frequently occupies global news through contested elections, rising living costs, migration movements, and questions of national identity this project offers a quieter, more intimate view. It invites the viewer to step away from simplified narratives, and instead to experience the layers of a nation still in the process of becoming.
